This week's morning messages included students drawing shapes on post-its, making a graph to show if they had the letter Nn in their name, & if they like rainy or sunny days better.
We introduced the letter of the week (Nn) and words that start with that sound. Students wrote words & drew pictures that began with Nn in their journal. Friday we made a craft! We also started our popcorn words this week and focused on I/the. A list of popcorn words are coming home today!
We also started working in centers. Students are paired up (right now just boy-boy and girl-girl) and work together in the following centers: computer, iPad, playdoh, blocks/legos, house/pretend, art/writing, word work, puzzles, and stamps. We are learning how to keep our volume low and solve problems together. We need to know how this process works before I can start pulling students to work at my table in small groups.
Everyone say "/n/!"
Writer's Workshop
Our Draw and Label lessons included reading The Napping House & drawing someone taking a nap, Scamper's Year & drawing a nut, and Giraffes & drawing a long neck! I try to alternate between fiction & nonfiction, depending on the books available.
We read Monster Knows Please and Thank You, When Sophie Gets Angry, Mouse Was Mad, and We Share Everything. We discussed how the characters learned ways to calm themselves down & solve their problems.
The Make a Deal Mat has been in service this week helping students solve problems using appropriate voice tone & language.
All About Me
This week we wrapped up our All About Me bags. Our special friends included Austin, Anna, Madison, Dylon, Korbin, & Wyatt!
We continued establishing a strong sense of numbers 1-5. We played several different games using different manipulatives that allowed students to count, write, draw, and even EAT! Each day we practice counting by 1's to 10, 20, and 100 and counting by 10's using some great songs on our Mighty Math Songs link! We also read some great number stories including Five Little Sharks, Chica Chica 1,2,3, and Ten Monsters in a Bed (very similar to the song Ten in a Bed).
