We contiued composing numbers 11-19 (10 + 5 = 15). This concept is the basis for understanding place value. At home, work with your child on making groups of 10 and some ones left over to make a new number. You can find some fun tools to use on this interactive Visual Manipulative website!
We learned about the letter Yy and started the first two words (her/his) of our fourth quarter list!
We started working on a booklet about ourselves. Every day we read a special book and discussed the importance of the features (cover page, title, pictures, and words). We use this information to help us understand that authors write about what they know! What better subject to write about than ourselves. These books will be kept until the end of the school year for a special book we put together.
Your child may come home talking about severe weather and ways to prepare & ways to stay safe during severe weather. We are discussing our Science STANDARD 2. The student will be able to demonstrate understanding of weather and climate; Target 2.1 I can prepare and respond to severe weather. This is a very scary subject for many little ones, so please know that we continued to reassure our students that the important thing to know was how to stay safe during severe weather!
