Most blog entries will NOT be this long; it's just been a very busy week!
Pathways to Reading (PTR or Pathways) is a program we use at school to help introduce letter names and sounds. We talked in class about how our brain makes pathways when it learns something new. Talk to your child about how they send brain waves to a friend when they know the answer (without blurting it out and ruining the other student's pathway being built!)! :)
We introduced the letter Mm by talking about how our mouth looks when we make the sound and how we need our nose (ask your child to show you what happens when you hold your nose while making the sound). We listed words on chart paper, read books, and sang songs. Click on the Website link and click on the 1st Quarter Targets button, then click on the Singable Songs button to listen to the Mm songs at home!
We are also learning how to sing our ABC's to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb. The PTR program has shown us that it is easier to hear the letter names to this tune!
We are practicing what good readers look like:
Math: Students focused on numbers 1-5 this week. We named numbers, counted objects in groups in a sequence, played counting games with dice, and practiced writing our numbers 1-5. Find some great online math games on my Website link! We read Five Little Monkeys and Five Little Ducks and listened to the songs online (go to the Welcome to Kindergarten link)! |

We are observing the weather every day and making a graph to help predict weather.
Social Studies:
We are practicing saying the pledge.
We did a lesson on what a THREE STAR paper looks like: you must color in the lines, choose colors that make sense, and not have any white spaces. First, the students colored their pig picture ALL one color and we talked about how boring our world would be if everything was the same color! After the lesson, students colored the pig picture again using the three star paper rules. Be sure to check out your child's picture in the hallway on Parent Information Night! |

Science: Observing the weather.
Social Studies: Discussing the flag and the pledge.
