Pathways: We are still reviewing all the letters we have learned so far (Mm, Nn, Ff, Vv, Pp, and Bb) and all the popcorn words (I, the, see, to, and, a, like, am, of, in). Please continue working with your popcorn word flash cards at home and helping your child be a word detective while reading stories! This week we focused on Bb & Pp (those two letters get mixed up easily) and I/the. We read poems, sang songs, and found the letters, popcorn words, and puncutation in big books. |
We spent the week writing about words that begin with letters we have learned. Monday & Tuesday we reviewed Bb: we read The Napping House and drew a picture of a bed and read The Berenstain Bears and the Bully and drew a bear. Thursday & Friday we reviewed Pp and read The Berenstain Bears Trouble with Pets and and drew a pet and read the Tacky the Penguin and drew a penguin.
BIST: BIST (Behavior Intervention Support Team) is one of many behavior programs we have incorporated into our daily schedule. It a way to help students deal with their problems in a more graceful way. We read a story every day about a challenging problem (bullying, teasing, etc.) and talk about ways the characters solved the problem. Some stories we read this week include The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Teasing, Hooway for Wodney Wat, and Hurty Feelings. |
We started introducing teen numbers! We talk about why the numbers are special (they start with one or need one ten and some little ones left over). This concept can be very hard to grasp for little ones. Look for number flash cards that came home this week. One side has the number and the other side has dots to count. If your child is unable to recognize the number, flip the card over and have them count the dots. We have several fun songs on our Mighty Math Songs link found on our Calendar Math page!
The kids are having some fun after morning work:
