Math Students are continuing working on counting objects and ordering numbers 0-5. We also started talking about using ordinal numbers, such as first, second, third, fourth and fifth. Have your child place objects in order and say the corresponding number (2) & ordinal number (second). We are also finding different ways to count and recognize numbers. |
Students are working on drawing and labeling pictures that begin with the letter of the week. This week, we focused on fox, fish, and flag. We also read a funny story called Good Boy, Fergus, and wrote about a dog on Friday. Students are starting to write sentences using their popcorn words!
We focused on the letter Ff this week and listened to Five Little Speckled Frogs for our rhyming activity. Our popcorn words are and/a. We write one or two sentences a day using our popcorn words. Keep practicing being 'word detectives' at home!
I work with small groups through the program Pathways to Reading. While I will be working with 4-6 students at my table, other students will have a chance to work at different centers (or stations). The stations include playdoh (forming letters and words), puzzles, math games, writing, teamboard activities, reading, big books, puppets, pretend play, and blocks. We will be introducing iPad, listening, and computer stations later this week. Currently, we are working on keeping our volume low, learning to work with our partner, and understanding the purpose of each center. Every two weeks, partners will be switched so every girl will work with every girl and every boy will work with every boy!
I am currently testing students on the letters and numbers we have been working on...please look for little notes that come home on papers (such as "Continue practicing at home."). I will be sending out emails next week to keep you up-to-date. Remember, no news is good news! If I feel there is a concern, I will contact you via email and let you know the things you can work on at home to reinforce the missing skill.
Also, we will be working in our goal folders next week, so you can start having your child practice the packet at home. Remember, students have ONLY been introduced to Mm, Nn, and Ff and the numbers 0-5. If your child is fluent with these letters and numbers, continue working on more letters and numbers that are in the packet. If they are not fluent, please do not move them on to new letters and numbers.
