We focused this week on the letter Nn, rhyming words (our poem was Jack Be Nimble), and the popcorn words see/to. You can find songs for these topics at my Website link. We call them popcorn words because they 'pop' up in all of our books!
Next week we will focus on Ff, listen to the song Five Little Speckled Frogs, and practice recognizing the popcorn words and/a.
We are practicing what it looks like when we are finished with our work. Students can read from their book baskets, practice tracing their names, work on writing letters and numbers on their dry-erase boards, or read around the room with a friend or stuffed animal (or Martian).
Writer's Workshop:
We made an anchor chart of What Writer's Do and then talked about why we label things! We focused on N words for our draw and label lessons. We read Mama Cat and her Three Kittens and one of the kitten naps all the time! We read The Best Nest and two birds searched high and low for the best place to make a nest. We also read a nonfiction book about giraffes and talked about their long necks.
Next week, we will be writing about things that begin with Ff (fish, farm, flag, frog, and fox).
We started comparing numbers 0-5. This topic is very hard to grasp! Help your child by talking about how many fewer items are in one group and how many more items are in another group. This skill is the foundation for addition & subtraction and reading graphs.
We are also practicing rote counting 1-2o. We have several counting songs on our Calendar Math Website.
We are focusing on recognizing numbers 0-5. We have started lessons using the educreactions app. You can find our first Counting lesson at https://www.educreations.com/sr/F66ACD. There are many lessons out there from last year that focus on addition and subtraction. We will be adding new lessons every few days so be sure to check back in to the website each week!
This week was our first visit to the library for check out. Your child will bring home two books every Friday. They can return the books anytime next week. Thursday we ask that all the books be returned so they can be back in the library for Friday morning's check out time. When we get back to the classroom, we spend about five minutes exploring our new books!
