Kindergarten Learning Targets and Power Standards
- Power Standards are listed first on the report card, which are the Year End Goals; they are only scored at the end of the year. The score will be compiled from the Learning Target scores under that Power Standard.
- Learning Targets are listed under each standard & are labeled by numbers. Some Targets will have multiple skills that are listed under them as A.B.C…etc. In this case, all of the skills under the target must be scored to compile a score for the Learning Target. However, some targets do not have multiple skills and the target is the only thing scored
- You can find a list of the Standards & Targets on the Information page of my website in a downloadable file labeled 2014-2015 K Targets.
- Scoring Guides range from 1-4. Your child’s goal is to be at a 3 at the end of the year, which is meeting expectations; 4’s are above and beyond and require a higher level order of thinking and are very difficult to meet. Some Targets and Standards do not have opportunities to meet a 4.
- Scores for Targets will be posted on the report card only after we have enough data. You will see many targets that have not been taught or not completely taught without a number score on the report card.
- You can find document on Standards Reference Reporting on the Information page of my website in a downloadable file labeled Standards Reference Reporting.
- TeacherEase is an online communication tool for parents to see their child’s ongoing academic performance.
- The District will notify you of your login procedures and this is tentatively set to open up to you on September 15.
- TeacherEase breaks down into assignments the Learning Targets that have multiple skills. It is important to remember the Learning Targets (such as counting to 100, identifying numbers, letters, and sounds, etc) that are taught all year long will be broken down on TeacherEase. However, the report card will be scored as a year-end goal. For example, an assignment may be labeled “Identify letters m, n, f, v, b, p.” Your child may have earned a “3” on TeacherEase, but the report card may have a 2 on the target. The report card target is to identify all 26 letters. Your child will get a 2 until all letters are taught and mastered. TeacherEase will keep you updated on your child’s current level of achievement as to what has been taught.
- You can find a Teacherease document on the Information page of my website in a downloadable file labeled Standards Reference Reporting.
This week we spent A LOT of time reviewing our class rules. It takes a lot of practice to become a good learner. We listened to a fun video about what our noise level in class (and outside) should sound like: http://safeshare.tv/w/xpEwibZjno We had a special visit from our librarian, Mrs. Cohee, who read Is Your Mama a Llama? |
ELA:
We continued reviewing the letter Mm. Students listened to Little Miss Muffet and were introduced to rhyming words. We continued practicing what good readers look like in class.
We continued working on numbers 0-5 (writing the number and counting objects) and playing our dice game.
