During morning work time, students are allowed to fill up water bottles, visit with neighbors, and sharpen pencils. When they are finished with their morning work, we listen to some songs and read stories on the carpet until everyone is ready.
We listen to the morning message that can be found on the Timber Creek website. Birthdays, shout outs, and other special events are announced on the morning message. Then we say the Pledge of Allegance and our Timber Creek Pledge ("At Timber Creek, I will act in such a way that I will be proud of myself and others will be proud of me, too. I came to school to learn, and I will learn. I will be safe. I will be respectful. I will be responsible. I will have a great day!"). Watch us say the pledge on our classroom TCKindergarten YouTube channel or the video below!
After lunch count and roll count, we have a great time greeting each other with a handshake, high five, or hug while singing our Good Morning Song! Students immediately come to the carpet afterwards for reading. We begin our circle time with the morning message.
9:10 - 10:05 Read Aloud & PTR
We began working with our reading program Pathways to Reading. It is a wonderful resource that is a fun and exciting way to learn letter names and sounds. This week we focused on Mm. We created a chart with words that started with Mm, sang Mm songs, read books, and learned nursery rhymes & poems.
10:30 - 11:00 Writer's Workshop
We started talking this week about how letters make sounds and put together those letters make words. Draw and Label lessons were introduced. We read a book and then draw and label something that was in the story. We read My Mom (and drew mom) and The Alphabet Tree (and drew a bug). We are working only on cvc (consonant/vowel/consonant) words for awhile!
11:35 - 12:15 Read Aloud/Behavior Lesson & All About Me Bags
This week we read The Invisible Boy, The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Teasing, Monsters Knows Excuse Me, and The Recess Queen. Every day we discuss our feelings, ways to be a better friend, voice tone, how to solve our own problems, and many other skills.
Our special friends this week were Jaiden, Cady, Brexton, and Heath!

Music (Mrs. Miller)
1:15 - 2:15 Calendar Math
We spend about 10 minutes on calendar time: reinforcing the days of the week, months of the year, counting, recognizing numbers, seasons, dates, etc. We read a math story and then move into our Envisions Math curriculum. Login information went home this week. Your child is becoming acclimated "driving" our online lessons!
We take a recess break in the afternoon at 2:15 p.m.
2:35 - 2:45 Snack/Online Story Time
Students cool down and have a snack while watching a great online story!
Each day we focus on lines, strokes, what the lines are for, and where to start (at the top or the middle - never at the bottom. Listen to our Start Your Letters song! We talk about how handwriting is important to help our hand muscles grow!
We have had a great time observing the caterpillars Mrs. Rewald, our school secretary, brought in to our classroom. Two Monarch butterflies came out of their chrysalis this week!
I sent home our monthly Home Reading Record - I recommend putting the log on the fridge & using it to record any books you have read throughout the month with your child. It is due the last day of the month & a Pizza Hut Book It! certificate will be given each month for filling out the recording sheet! Please let me know if your log gets lost. You can always print one off at home from our Downloadables link.
Monday ~ No School
Wednesday ~ PE
We will begin Show-N-Tell the week after all of our All About Me Bags are done (Friday 9/25). I will send a text reminder and put it on our School Calendar! We will have it on the last Friday of each month.
***Please don't expect every weekly update to be like this one - I just know as a parent, I enjoy knowing what my child is doing throughout the day! Now you have a better foundation of our daily routine & can ask more specific questions.***
