Students play "I have, Who has" with a new twist: they must say their letter, letter sound, and something that starts with that sound! Students had fun making their own Rhyming Monster! They had to listen to sentences such as "When you draw a monster, it is said, you always begin with his _____!" They draw the parts!

Students continue to work on writing skills each day.
While I meet with reading groups, students work with a partner in centers.
We started our science unit on plants. We read stories, researched online, and even planted our own vegetables and flowers in our new outdoor classroom garden!
Students continue working daily on specific targets during jag time.
In math, we focused on measurement. Students are comparing their height to friends and objects in the classroom.
We wrapped up our composing and decomposing teen numbers target. Students have done a great job building an understanding of ones and tens!
The students' writing has blossomed so much this quarter! This week, we wrote about our spring break, something we couldn't wait for, our clothing, and a special visit from some ducks & chicks!
Students had a great time researching & writing about a topic on PebbleGo using their chromebooks. Students continue to work on punctuation, capitalization, spacing, spelling words phonetically, & making sure their sentences make sense in their daily writing block. Students spend 25 minutes each day working on goals during a block of time called Jaguar Time. They may be practicing handwriting, writing numbers to 100, orally counting to 100, reading popcorn words, etc. I work with 1-6 students at my table on targets.
During Pathways, we focused on short vowel sounds. Students had a great time trying to figure out what was in the mystery box! Items had to begin with the letter of the day.
During our math block, we continued working on composing and decomposing numbers less than or equal to 10 and also teen numbers. We made bracelets on Friday to review all the different ways to make a number less than 10.
During writing, we read a new story each day and wrote about a specific theme.
Kindergarten Round-up is Wednesday, March 30 at 2 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. Please encourage friends & family members who are parents of children who will be five-years-old before Aug. 1, 2016 to attend!
We had a great turn out for the Grandparents breakfast!
During large group pathways, students find partners with pictures that start with the same sound as their card. This week we had two guest readers! They read a Dr. Seuss book in celebration of his birthday.
Writing We have had a wonderful week writing! I hope parents see all the great daily pieces coming home. Students love writing about animals & family! Math We continued building (composing) and taking apart (decomposing) numbers! Talk with your child about number bonds or families. When students finish math assignments, they spend time every few days in math centers! Reading We reviewed the letter Hh this week in large group and read some great stories by Marcus Pfister. Ask your child about Hopper, the adventurous hare! We continue to meet daily in our small groups building words & developing reading skills. Students work with a partner in reading related centers. Remember to read every night for at least 10 minutes to your child! We spend a little time each week on chromebooks. This week students learned how to navigate Spelling City (a great resource for practicing those popcorn words) and Greg Tang's math game center. Kindergarten Round-up is Wednesday, March 30 at 2 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. Please encourage friends & family members who are parents of children who will be five-years-old before Aug. 1, 2016 to attend! Thank you for taking the time to complete the short survey. This week, we focused on the letter Ww. Students visit with me daily in small group settings to work on reading & writing skills at their level. In writing, we focused more on free-time writing, composing sentences about places they have been and people they love. It is great to see their writing bloom this time of year! In math, we finished our math mats on decomposing & composing. Continue working at home on ways to build a number! Show-and-Tell is always a fun way to show off fun items from home! Thank you, parents, for your donated items & volunteered time helping make our classroom party a success!
We continued working on subtraction, reviewed the letter Ll, and did some free writing this week.
Due to the amount of testing for our mid-quarter reporting period, we spent a lot of time doing small group activities. Below students are sorting objects into groups of 10 to make 100. Pathways/Reader's & Writer's Workshop We reviewed the letter Jj and created a word list. We reviewed the color words brown, orange, purple, pink, and black (it has been so cute seeing everyone dress similarly!). I wished I had thought to take a daily group picture. Be sure to practice all the color words at home! In the photos below, students had picture cards and had to find a partner with the same sound. During our small group time, students are busy at stations when they are not at the table working with me. You may see items come home like the pictures below - students are responsible for filling out a reading paper when they are at the buddy reading or big book stations. I will slowly add in more writing to their stations. We continued our social studies unit on community helpers & discussed the importance of doctors, teachers, and mail carriers. In our booklet, we filled out a graphic organizer and then wrote a sentence from that information. Math We continued reviewed addition & subtraction. We talked about the missing subtrahend in subtraction problems (5 - __ = 3). We also started some math packets based on your child's skill level. 100th Day Celebration! We worked together creating a long paper chain with 100 hoops. We had a GREAT time laughing at how old we will look when we are 100 years old! Students wrote a sentence about what they will do or be like when they are 100 years old. We had ten stations and students had to glue, tape, write, or draw 100 objects! We have a wonderful high school tutor, Bryce, who visits our classroom every day.
